The performances were strong, and the script felt carefully put together; it's unusual to see this particular historical event portrayed on film. Every member of the cast delivered a commendable performance. I found myself particularly drawn to the scenes involving the great-grandfather and his great-grandson, who is referred to as 'the fixer' (Xiao Zhan). My one reservation is that the movie felt somewhat brief; I would have appreciated greater depth in exploring the backgrounds of the three central adult characters.
