I’m a big fan of Elmore Leonard, and I generally believe that films adapted from his stories are going to feel inventive and worthwhile. This one doesn't fit that pattern. The filmmakers took a familiar Leonard storyline and made it overly polished for mainstream audiences. They seemed to be striving for a *Pulp Fiction* vibe, but without the dark humor—instead opting for broader, more physical comedy. You can still sense Leonard’s distinctive style…but the narrative has been mishandled, leaving behind something that's simply not good.
