That perspective hasn’t disappeared entirely, and despite the current push to assess individuals by their race... it seems many will simply stop being prejudiced. The film is deeply racist, and it makes several assertions. First, it opposes relationships between people of different races. Second, similar to his other works, the movie implies that white individuals are not only racist but also inherently bad. Third, there's a suggestion that white people secretly desire to be Black, which mirrors a joke from *Chasing Amy*. This theme continues throughout the film; the message is obvious, and likely contributes to the widespread acclaim because it successfully addresses a key political point: “All white people are evil, they’re responsible for all wrongdoing, and they deserve retribution.” Naturally, anything so overtly racist will be labeled "intelligent" in today's climate.
