This film was fantastic; I'm having trouble describing just how much joy and anticipation it gave me, and I’ll explain why in a bit… Many people may not have encountered this before, but it connects to comments I made yesterday regarding my Letterboxd review of Brightburn. That horror movie had a promising concept but failed due to poor execution—there wasn't enough plot or character development to make you invested in the characters. Get Out achieves a flawless combination of horror elements, character growth, and a compelling storyline. Regarding the horror aspects, I was genuinely unsettled from the start, and this feeling gradually intensified, which I really appreciated. It avoided relying on jump scares instead building suspense over time that made the conclusion so frightening. I was completely convinced Chris would either die or be subjected to mind control by the film's end. The character development was another highlight for me, and here’s why: it fostered a deep connection with these characters. I desperately wanted Chris to be safe, and I was on pins and needles hoping he would escape. The TSA officer provided some much-needed comic relief without detracting from the film's atmosphere. I hoped the enslaved people would find freedom, even though they ultimately took their own lives. And I felt genuinely saddened by the girlfriend’s betrayal. It created a strong emotional bond with the movie, elevating it significantly. The plot was excellent because it consistently surprised me and subverted my expectations. I anticipated a negative outcome for the main character, but things turned out well. I couldn't imagine how Chris could possibly escape, yet he did so through clever methods I hadn’t considered. The ending with the TSA officer arriving instead of someone overtly racist was brilliant; moments like that made the movie incredibly enjoyable. It wove together a truly remarkable narrative that really propelled the entire film forward.
