There’s a journey across the ocean, a lost tiara, a private investigator involved; some dazzling dancers appear, and a bit of courtroom action unfolds as we observe two American performers attempting to establish themselves after the war years. "Dorothy" (Jane Russell) and "Lorelei" (Marilyn Monroe) are working their way overseas when the latter takes a pause from her relationship with “Gus” (Tommy Noonan), who is quite rich but also rather controlling. It's his wealthy father who becomes concerned about his son’s choice of bride, leading him to employ the detective and setting up what will surely be numerous misinterpretations. While that’s happening, "Dorothy" has caught the eye of the American Olympic team – a group of athletic young men in minimal clothing who make her feel wonderful. Even with various distractions presented to them, the two remain close as portrayed in this version of “sisterhood.” The plot itself isn't particularly strong; it’s a combination of well-worn situations loosely put together to provide an enjoyable showcase for two women who certainly know how to amuse. "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," composed by Jule Stein and Leo Robin, stands out from the rest of the songs and dance routines, which are generally quite predictable, but these actresses perform their own vocals and move in perfect unison through about six musical numbers before reaching an ending that lets Norma Varden express her most disdainful attitude and allows Charles Coburn to finish his few amusing moments as this very thin story moves along smoothly, though I must admit, it’s easily forgotten. It's a visually appealing film, radiating a charm that makes it worth watching.
