I decided to watch this because of the Coen brothers’ involvement. It stands out within their body of work — it's one of just two feature films they wrote but didn't direct, and the first since 1985. I admit, the promotional image suggested a less sophisticated film than the last Coen project I watched, however, I have appreciated their comedic style in the past. Perhaps its lack of distribution in the United States stems from it being an unconventional piece. However, that isn’t the case; it's straightforward to follow. It felt like a low-budget comedy with exaggerated characters and silly accents, along with the typical series of miscommunications, many of which could be resolved if people simply paid attention to their surroundings. I found myself thinking about how different things might have been had the Coen brothers directed or if their script hadn’t apparently been altered. I did like the concept of portraying the central con artist's victim as a caricature initially. But later, when we see him from a more detached perspective, he appears quite reasonable, even though he is visibly frustrated with his assistant. There’s an interesting dynamic between these two characters that deserved further development; it would have been nice to see that explored more fully.
