In this adaptation, female characters possess magical abilities, attributed simply to their gender, which they utilize to inflict harm, concluding with a sense of satisfaction derived from the prospect of further retribution against men. It appears the prior version’s focus on redemption was deemed unsuitable, necessitating an altered ending that prioritizes spite over reconciliation? Fundamentally, it remains a ghost story, and there are plausible approaches to intensifying its darkness while maintaining its Christmas theme of redemption. However, at some point, it veered toward increased bleakness, substituting spite for the original message, and I suspect this new emphasis connects with the intended viewers more effectively than any concept of redemption ever could.
