A pair of teenage girls—Victoria Justice and Jane Levy—find themselves escorting one girl’s nonverbal younger brother while his mother attends a gathering with other adults (Chelsea Handler). “Fun Size,” rated PG-13, feels like it was made in layers, initially for children, then teenagers, then adults, and back to kids again. This didn't personally bother me, but some parents might find it odd. I appreciated the Halloween setting centered around trick-or-treating without typical scary movie elements. Jane Levy, who is small and has red hair, stands out, as does Riki Lindhome, also a redhead, in her role as the Galaxy Scout. However, filming took place in June 2011, which detracts from the intended late October atmosphere. I’m used to that kind of thing (“Halloween” was filmed in May), but on top of everything else, there's a scene featuring the teen characters’ mothers who are lesbians—more than one—and they’re creating some sort of mural referencing NObama. It felt completely out of place. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 26 minutes, and most of the interior shots of Wren’s house were filmed in Lakewood, Ohio, across town from Cleveland Heights where much of the film was shot. Scenes involving "Captain Chicken" took place on Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland. GRADE: C/C-
