The movie showcases sharp writing, a distinctive feel, exciting action sequences, over-the-top horror elements, a strong ensemble, and Salma Hayek’s performance is particularly noteworthy. The story centers on two criminals in Texas—played by George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino—who kidnap an unhappy former preacher (Harvey Keitel) along with his children, a son and daughter (Ernest Liu & Juliette Lewis). They flee to Mexico, making a stop at a roadside bar in the desert while waiting to meet up with their connection (Cheech Marin) the following morning. What follows is horror. "From Dusk Till Dawn," released in 1996, is a crime-horror film directed by Robert Rodriguez and based on a script from Tarantino. It combines elements of "Pulp Fiction" (1994), the storyline of "Vamp" (1986), and touches of "The Lost Boys" (1987) and "The Evil Dead" (1981), resulting in a film brimming with energy and style. Clooney delivers a standout performance, marking his first appearance in a feature film, portraying a character who shifts between antagonist and protagonist roles. Salma Hayek’s dance number is remarkable and has become very memorable. The movie mixes serious spiritual themes with an edgy irreverence, alongside violence, graphic content, and cartoonish evil, creating a diverting experience—provided you don't mind the disturbing aspects. It doesn’t generate much fear; however, it’s enjoyable and exciting as things get increasingly absurd, featuring intelligent conversations and dark humor. The film has a running time of 1 hour and 48 minutes and was filmed in Barstow, Lancaster, Calico Dry Lake and Los Angeles, California, plus Chihuahua, Mexico. Other cast members include Tom Savini, Fred Williamson, Danny Trejo, Michael Parks, John Saxon, and Kelly Preston. GRADE: B
