It’s refreshing to find something that isn't just another lesbian love story, and this one surpasses similar films. The movie draws from a documentary short with the same title, recounting the true account of a couple who contended for equal rights and pension benefits while facing cancer treatment for one partner. It functions more effectively as a drama centered on seeking justice than it does as a romance, though the romantic elements are also quite well done. Ellen Page and Julianne Moore both deliver strong performances; although Moore seemed slightly older than her character. Watching them, I felt that being a lesbian was somehow sweeter than being straight or even gay. The initial portion of the film focuses on their relationship, presenting a nicely told romance. However, once Steve Carell appears, the narrative shifts to explore another facet of the story. All of the cast members are commendable, including Michael Shannon. The plot is fairly straightforward, which is understandable in a biographical film. Altering such a true account would require an exceptionally inventive script that audiences haven't encountered before. I believe the purpose is to present a genuine story as it unfolded, and that’s precisely what the filmmaker accomplished. Therefore, any complaints about the narrative should be reconsidered; instead, consider whether it's inspiring or worthwhile for other reasons. For me, it initially felt deeply emotional, but the unfolding events in the second half clarified the film’s message. It deserves more recognition as one of the best films of the year. I recommend it, particularly to mature viewers with an open mind, because it isn’t solely about a same-sex romance; it's about the struggle for equality within society. 8/10
