The echoes of “Ready Player One” are unmistakable in this movie, and like that one, it’s pretty silly and fails to draw you into the story, though initially things look promising. The beginning, lasting roughly twenty minutes, is genuinely enjoyable with amusing nods to classic video games, impressive computer-generated imagery, and witty conversations. However, after that, the film falls apart: the antagonist is lackluster, the storyline feels familiar, the action sequences are unbelievable, and the depiction of hacking seems completely unrealistic—clearly conceived by someone unfamiliar with computers beyond a smartphone. The potential for exploring a significant concept like the first artificial intelligence ever created goes entirely unexplored. While I understand this is intended as lighthearted entertainment, those who appreciate thoughtful narratives won’t find much to enjoy here.
