Freaky is a horror comedy that plays on the familiar concept of Freaky Friday, and its name reflects this connection. The film incorporates slasher aspects, and I appreciated how it echoed Friday the 13th with a killer who felt like Jason Voorhees, accompanied by music similar to the original Friday the 13th soundtrack during his appearances. The violence is quite graphic and certainly justifies the R rating; some of the deaths are inventive, while others are fairly standard for horror films. However, I occasionally found myself feeling bored while watching it. There were moments where the pacing slowed down noticeably, which would have benefited from being tightened up to improve the overall viewing experience. I recognize that the movie intentionally set out to be self-aware and satirize horror conventions, but I thought they pushed this a bit too far. Certain scenes involving bullying seemed so exaggerated and unrealistic that they distracted me from the film, even though I understood they were meant to be satirical. The acting was generally good; some lines felt clunky when delivered, although it wasn’t consistent enough to significantly detract from the experience. Vince Vaughn gives a great performance in this movie, and his portrayal of a high school girl trapped inside a killer's body is convincing, with his mannerisms and speech patterns effectively conveying that transformation.
