Freaky Tales provides precisely what it intends to offer: a visually striking, fast-paced experience full of energy and nods to films from the 1980s, without trying to be overly profound. The story isn't always easy to follow, and some of its ideas and characters could have been explored more deeply, but this is compensated for by its relentless speed, unique imagery, and the simple enjoyment it provides that holds your attention throughout. Featuring appealing performances, a vibrant musical score, and an extremely wild ending, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s film might not appeal to all tastes, but it will certainly connect with those who enjoy genre movies and appreciate nostalgia.
