It was an acceptable film to view, but it’s unlikely I’ll revisit it, and I can’t really suggest it unless someone is specifically looking for a musical centered around a "body swap" premise. I wasn't aware that the movie would be a musical until almost the moment I started watching. I had been curious about why Disney chose to revive this story, but now it seems apparent that this film operates independently of the previous one, despite being produced by the same studio. The "magical" hourglass, though an unusual-looking item, proves to be a more effective magical device than a “cookie,” and the concept behind "The Hunt" is strong enough to have sustained its own movie—one that could potentially become very popular. I also appreciated how they gave considerable attention to several of the supporting characters and the antagonist in this version. Sometimes, though, extensive character development for secondary roles suggests that the main characters are lacking, and it feels like a way to make up for it. It’s partly due to the writing itself, and while the actors aren't necessarily poor performers, they appear to have been chosen more for contractual obligations and musical ability; frankly, I didn’t find much of the acting appealing. After just having seen the 2003 film, I don’t believe this one measures up.
