Jamie Lee Curtis brings her characteristic energy to this updated version of a film from about twenty years ago, fully committing to the role of grandmother "Tess" and clearly having a great time. This go-around, the body swap isn’t just between her and her daughter “Anna” (Lindsay Lohan); it also involves Anna's daughter, “Harper” (Julia Butters), and her friend “Lily” (Sophia Hammons)—who happens to be the child of "Eric" (Manny Jacinto), soon to become Anna's husband. The four of them need to figure out how to return to their original bodies before Ryan (Mark Harmon) has his girlfriend, who is now “Tess,” dressed in a sleeveless top, and while Anna tries to reassure her daughter that her upcoming marriage won’t change things between them. The male characters aren't particularly strong; Harmon feels stiff, Jacinto seems too young to be a father and uses an odd attempt at a British accent that doesn't really help the plot’s ambitious plan to move his family to London. Butters and Hammons don’t have much of a role but are fine enough, though the comedy and writing offer a real treat for Lohan and Curtis, who seem to be having a blast revisiting this silly story. The film amusingly plays with generational differences—fashion, music, sexist views, ageism—while also blatantly checking out the awkward record store owner “Jake” (Chad Michael Murray), whose appearance brought back memories of those old Nick Kamen Levi’s commercials. It does lose some momentum near the conclusion as it leans a bit too heavily into overly sweet moments, but JLC crawling on the floor while doing her "stretching" and Lohan demonstrating how *not* to flirt are genuinely funny. As they say, youth is wasted on the young!
