The bizarre events don’t stop with an unusual demise involving a lawnmower. A student of medicine attempts to rebuild his decapitated fiancée by constructing a new body from women working on the streets of Manhattan. Frank Henenlotter, who previously directed Basket Case and Brain Damage, delivers this sleazy but enjoyable mix of the Frankenstein story with Re-Animator’s humorous elements. This isn't something for those with refined tastes; it's intentionally gory, satirical black comedy horror. It features a lot of dismembered body parts, bizarre scenes set in everyday America, and plenty of gooey special effects. The actors are clearly aware of the film’s tone and give understated performances, with Patty Mullen looking beautiful while playfully referencing "Bride of Frankenstein." From a gruesome death by lawnmower to an excellent plot development at the movie's conclusion, it's a laugh for those who enjoy low-quality horror and comic books. 6/10
