Glenn Ford portrays "Mike," a financially struggling mining engineer with a taste for whiskey, who finds himself drawn into a complicated situation upon arriving in a quiet town. He becomes entangled with "Paula" (Janis Carter), who intends to manipulate him and her boyfriend, the local bank manager "Price" (Steve Sullivan), in an attempt to deceive the kindhearted elderly prospector "Cunningham" (Edgar Buchanan). Cunningham may have stumbled upon a significant silver deposit. However, their scheme doesn't unfold as anticipated because Paula unexpectedly develops feelings for "Mike." The situation further complicates when her boyfriend turns up dead, and the old man is wrongly accused – we are aware of the perpetrator throughout – forcing both of them to confront difficult decisions. While it’s an acceptable film overall, the narrative feels drawn out; it progresses with a somewhat repetitive rhythm before reaching a conclusion that I personally found disappointing. The on-screen connection between Ford and Carter lacks spark, and her character begins assertively but ultimately becomes a less substantial figure by the story's close. Aside from some characteristic energetic performances from Buchanan, this movie is largely forgettable.
