Fractured creates a feeling of unease through its suspenseful nature as a psychological thriller, largely due to its unsettling ambiance. The visuals are effective in drawing viewers into the narrative; the cinematography utilizes subdued colors and austere locations to generate a sense of apprehension. It’s quite striking visually and establishes a serious tone that adds weight to the viewing experience. This pervasive coldness contributes to the discomfort, which intensifies the story's impact. Sam Worthington delivers a commendable performance, portraying a man falling apart under duress with believable conviction. His intensity is enough to keep audiences engaged in his character’s progression, even when the plot begins to slow down. However, Lily Rabe doesn’t seem right for her part. Although she isn't onscreen for long, it becomes apparent that she doesn't quite belong, and the absence of a connection between the characters diminishes some of the emotional impact. The storyline is interesting, but ultimately feels somewhat foreseeable and has difficulty sustaining its appeal throughout. It needs something to propel it forward and maintain engagement from beginning to end. The film’s construction seems unfocused, as if unsure of its own rhythm. While you can identify a conventional three-act structure if you analyze the movie that way, it's not obvious while watching. Despite these issues, the atmosphere and Worthington’s acting make it worthwhile, particularly for those who appreciate psychological thrillers exploring perception.
