The initial portion of this film, Hammer’s venture into science fiction, manages to be genuinely engaging: two friends create a device capable of reproducing anything at all—living things, inanimate objects—whatever comes to mind. When "Robin" (played by John van Eyssen) weds his childhood acquaintance and co-developer, "Lena" (Barbara Peyton), his partner, "Bill" (Stephen Murray), decides to produce an exact copy of a woman he knows as "Helen." The problem arises because this duplicate is too convincing; she also develops feelings for Robin, putting Bill in a difficult situation. While the narrative itself provides some entertainment, the performances are rather uninspired and the dialogue feels choppy, hindering the story's momentum. Similarly, the special effects are rudimentary, with sets that appear unsteady and emit an artificial glow reminiscent of early episodes of "Dr. Who." It’s not awful, and as a debut in this genre from a studio known for horror, it provides a passable viewing experience from writer/director Terence Fisher.
