This action-packed World War II adventure, based on a comic book, features a strong ensemble cast. Major Mallory (played by Robert Shaw) and Sergeant Miller (Edward Fox), familiar faces from “The Guns of Navarone” (1961), are sent to Yugoslavia with the task of locating and neutralizing a German spy who attempted to disrupt their previous mission at Navarone (Franco Nero). Their journey requires them to align with an American team undertaking a secret operation to destroy a bridge. Harrison Ford leads this group, while Carl Weathers portrays a sergeant evading military police, a character added late in the process. Barbara Bach and Richard Kiel appear later on. "Force 10 from Navarone” (1978) feels like a fast-food version of the original film. It's not inherently awful—McDonald’s isn’t bad—but it sacrifices some sophistication, opting instead for exaggerated writing and abundant action sequences. The movie combines elements of “The Guns of Navarone,” "Where Eagles Dare" (1968), and “Hornets’ Nest” (1970), but with a style reminiscent of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), although it's less silly and not quite as well-executed. The cast delivers solid performances, and the scenery is stunning; however, the script feels noticeably immature. As an interesting note, this was Robert Shaw’s second-to-last film appearance; he passed away from a heart attack just three months before its release at the relatively young age of 51. The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 58 minutes and was primarily filmed in what was then Yugoslavia, including locations like the Durdevica Tara Bridge on the Tara River in Montenegro, and the Jablanica Dam and Jablanicko Lake in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
