It’s likely that most viewers haven't encountered this film; I know I hadn't before finding it. Despite its obscurity, it proved to be a fairly enjoyable fantasy, supernatural, and crime movie—though I honestly struggle to define its genre. It begins with the feel of a standard fantasy but whether that label truly fits is questionable. The visuals are quite impressive. For me, they were the biggest factor in my enjoyment. The village setting is beautifully captured on film, presenting a world that feels both picturesque and realistically rough. The characters, complete with oversized moustaches and unusual hairstyles, are also memorable. While the special effects aren’t groundbreaking, they're perfectly adequate; I particularly appreciated the transformation sequence during dinner roughly halfway through. The plot unfolds in an unpredictable manner, occasionally feeling somewhat disconnected. It wasn't always clear why one scene led to another. However, considering what happens later on, that disjointedness might have been intentional, creating a “dreamy” quality—and I must admit, I was quite tired while watching it. The conclusion offered a genuine surprise. This is where the movie shifted from fantasy toward something more akin to a crime narrative; I certainly didn't anticipate that twist until it became apparent. It’s hard to imagine finding much fault with how you choose to spend two hours in the evening, particularly if you prefer films outside of typical mainstream Hollywood productions.
