A reconnaissance vessel belonging to Britain is destroyed in the Aegean Sea, and oceanographer Jack Hedley, known as “Havelock,” gets assigned to locate it. The goal is to recover a crucial piece of tracking equipment before it can be seized by opposing forces. However, events don’t unfold smoothly; after the wreckage is found, a violent killing takes place, forcing Roger Moore ("007") and the deceased scientist's daughter (Carole Bouquet) to pursue the stolen technology before the Soviets get their hands on it. The action sequences and devices are fairly enjoyable, but the acting leaves something to be desired. With the exception of the lead actor, most of the performers seem out of place; Topol, Julian Glover as "Kristatos," and Lynn-Holly Johnson ("Bibi"), who seems ill-suited to her role as an ice-skating prodigy, all have difficulty propelling this slow storyline toward a rather weak conclusion. While there is some attractive filming showcasing Greece, and the action set pieces are adequate, I don't consider this installment featuring "Mr. Bond" to be among his finest.
