Gian Maria Volontè portrays “El Indio,” a bank robber pursued by bounty hunter “Mandi” played by Clint Eastwood. Lee van Cleef takes on the role of “Col. Mortimer,” also seeking out the bandito and his crew, resulting in an awkward alliance to locate them and divide the reward. The movie is fundamentally about avarice rather than faith—it’s that straightforward, and it's excellent! It unfolds at a deliberate pace; events don't rush forward, which significantly enhances the film’s mood and suspense. However, it isn't boring by any means: there are still plenty of gun battles, brawls, and general unpleasantness alongside some sharp, dark humor and an exceptionally fitting score from Ennio Morricone that leads to a predictable chain of betrayals. I don't feel it possesses the same sense of danger or roughness as "A Fistful of Dollars" (1964), but it remains a tightly controlled, character-based western with a story full of unexpected turns.
