Footnote wasn’t really successful in captivating me. The initial pacing felt like an obstacle early on, particularly that opening sequence focusing on Eliezer and Uriel; I understand the intention behind it, but it failed to grab my attention. I also struggled with the characters; they were intentionally difficult to connect with, but still proved hard to engage with. I don't require myself to enjoy every character, however, if they aren’t appealing, then they need to be compelling – and the central figures, while showing some improvement as the film progresses, didn’t prove particularly memorable to watch. The latter half of the movie is undoubtedly stronger. Not only does what I mentioned earlier get better (though not enough for me to say that I enjoyed it), but the editing and musical score become more dynamic. The understated humor sprinkled throughout, largely at the beginning, is agreeable as well. Regarding the performances, Shlomo Bar-Aba and Lior Ashkenazi are adequate – actors I could potentially appreciate in a different film. I do find merit in what the movie tries to convey, and it seems interesting when considered conceptually. This appears to be a popular film, so it's hard for me to argue against its merits. I wouldn’t say I disliked it; it just didn’t resonate with me.
