It struck me that this felt like a weak imitation of "Interstellar." We’re introduced to “Hen” (Saoirse Ronan) and her husband, “Junior” (Paul Mescal), who reside on their isolated family farm. Their life seems rather ordinary, and the marriage doesn't appear particularly solid when a mysterious stranger driving an old car arrives. This man, "Terrance" (Aaron Pierre), represents a supra-governmental organization tasked with populating space—apparently, Earth is nearing its end—and informs “Junior” that he’s been chosen to relocate elsewhere, separating him from his wife. “Junior” refuses this prospect, while "Terrance" insists it's unavoidable; however, there’s a small consolation for “Hen.” She will receive a duplicate of her husband to provide companionship during his absence. To ensure “Junior 2” is as genuine as possible, their guest must linger for several weeks, meticulously documenting every aspect of their shared life. While this isn't explicitly stated, it seems likely that some sort of body exchange occurs; otherwise, the film’s lackluster ending would be even more baffling than it already is. Is this meant to be an examination of human connections or the inner workings of the mind? Imagine waking up next to a perfect replica of your partner—would you even realize something was amiss? That's the central issue. It feels like a fundamentally insignificant narrative that meanders toward its conclusion without truly capturing your attention. Despite this, Paul Mescal delivers some genuinely moving moments, but Ronan seems underutilized, and "Terrance’s" underdeveloped character only contributes to the film’s overall lack of energy. The movie progresses at a slow pace and offers nothing particularly original. It's ultimately disappointing.
