I intended to see this film because it starred Will Smith, but after several cast members dropped out, I became curious about it instead. I did find it enjoyable, though the ending left me disappointed. It had a clever twist, apart from the shooting sequence. That small element really seemed to determine how I felt about the entire movie. It’s a well-crafted crime drama with romantic elements. Despite all the changes that occurred, the final cast performed admirably. Heist films always appeal to me because of the planning and excitement involved. Nicky is a con artist who brings in Jess, a small-time thief, to join his crew. Things are going well for them both professionally and romantically when an unforeseen disruption occurs. Years later, their paths cross again, which sets up what happens afterward. The initial portion establishes Nicky’s personality—his intense focus on the job and his dependable team take center stage. This was easily the strongest part of the film; the second half attempts a bolder move but loses some energy. It veers into revenge or jealousy territory, though it does try to be very intricate as things reach their peak, pushing events forward quickly. The movie turned out better than I expected, especially considering how harshly it’s been criticized. It could have benefited from more careful writing in the critical moments—particularly that ending. I'd recommend seeing it for its entertainment value, but it doesn't quite rank among the year’s best films. 6½/10
