The fundamental concept behind the movie doesn't quite hold up. The notion that dinosaurs could wander around an American town without any military intervention – you’d expect them to be there immediately with missiles, tanks, and helicopters if you simply lost your ice cream – is even more unbelievable than the thought of velociraptors and Tyrannosaurs eating people in residential areas. Yet, here it is! Following some loud, unexplained sounds and flashing lights, the "Platt" family discovers their dog is missing. Maybe "Starbuck" just went out for a drink? Son "Brian" (Christian Convery) worries, but that quickly becomes insignificant as he, his dad "Greg" (Ewan McGregor), mom "Denise" (Anne Hathaway), and sister "Audrey" (Maisy Stella) are stuck in a house with some very loud and hungry neighbors. How can they possibly defend themselves using only a bow and arrow and a baseball bat? What follows is simply enjoyable, and it’s clear that the entire cast seems to be having fun with this silly Jurassic adventure, which has echoes of "Mysterious Island" (1961). It's constantly moving, packed with activity, and while I could have lived without some of the predictable family conflicts that seem essential these days, I ended up liking it much more than I anticipated, and Hathaway was surprisingly entertaining.
