Flight Risk proves to be a complete failure, stumbling badly from start to finish. The movie struggles with what it wants to be, never managing to find its footing. It attempts to balance mindless action and a tight, suspenseful atmosphere, but falls short in both regards. The script is remarkably poor; the dialogue feels stilted and unnatural, making even simple exchanges feel like a chore. The film’s rhythm is equally problematic, with slow, uninspired scenes padding out the time between over-the-top fight moments. Beyond the requirement to overlook some unbelievable events, the actors are unable to elevate the weak story. Topher Grace gives a truly terrible performance, and Michelle Dockery and Mark Wahlberg – who does seem dedicated to his character – can’t overcome the film's pervasive silliness. It’s hard to invest in Wahlberg’s portrayal because of his shaved head and nonsensical lines. However, the biggest letdown is Mel Gibson's direction, which feels strangely lifeless. Considering his previous work like Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge, this project is a strikingly unimaginative endeavor. To make matters worse, the film’s obvious use of green screens and substandard visual effects give everything a cheap and fake appearance. It ranks among the worst movies released recently.
