Flight Risk (2025) begins with a lot of promise; the initial setup is good, and the cinematography is well-done, creating an interesting mood. The opening scenes inside the cabin immediately grab your attention, and the takeoff sequence offers some pleasing views. However, after the plane is airborne, the film’s momentum fades. While the directing isn't bad, it doesn't have any distinctive style, falling into a routine of interactions between characters that makes events seem inevitable. The story attempts to create suspense through elements of spying and mystery, but these aspects aren't fully realized. Many choices made by the people in the film don’t quite ring true, and the writing does little to explain why they act as they do. Mark Wahlberg gives a dependable performance and maintains control of his role, though the other actors are less memorable. The computer-generated imagery is disappointing, particularly given how central it is to the movie. Considering that most of the story unfolds on the plane, one would hope the exterior shots would appear realistic, but they don't. Action scenes feel disjointed, and some situations disregard logic in ways that disrupt the viewing experience. The music is present, but doesn’t make a lasting impression. Ultimately, Flight Risk seemed to have possibilities but turns out to be an unremarkable thriller that depends too heavily on well-worn conventions without offering anything fresh.
