I get why people have issues with this movie, or at least I see where the criticism originates. When it was first released and I was younger, most of it just went over my head. Now that I’m considerably older, it's very obvious they are portraying Southern culture in a really unflattering light. However, it remains humorous, and a lot of what they’re making jokes about is still accurate. There are places where I worry about keeping my St. Christopher medal tucked away because I fear being harmed for being Catholic—and I’m a white man. Basically, it's a negative stereotype that might only apply to a small group these days, and one that’s getting smaller all the time, but it is still something that has been brought on by past actions. So relax; it’s just jokes. Don’t be as easily offended as those "PC Liberals" you're always complaining are too sensitive. It's intended to be funny, and we really need to remember how to laugh at ourselves as a country.
