This movie is a silly but entertaining science fiction fantasy adventure with some undeniably low-budget elements, though the visuals are bright and well-executed. The acting generally wasn't bad; Max Von Sydow brought a certain gravitas to his role even though it was pretty ridiculous, and Sam J. Jones did an acceptable job as the hero, although he didn’t have much opportunity to showcase his skills in either performance or action sequences. Melody Anderson was passable too, but I felt like the romantic storyline between her character and Flash Gordon seemed a little unnatural. Considering when it came out, I thought the special effects were pretty decent; they looked better than what we got in *Superman 3* and *Superman 4*, which arrived later on (in 1983 and 1987 respectively). It was an enjoyable way to spend some time, and I’d probably watch it again. **4.0/5**
