The movie could have been genuinely good if not for the truly awful dubbing job. The story centers on a group from around the world who are brought together to journey to Venus aboard something called the "Cosmocrator" after signs of possible life are discovered on a meteor. During their trip, they decode some writing that suggests the inhabitants of Venus once considered invading Earth – are they potentially walking into danger? The visuals for the spaceship feel very much like those from “Forbidden Planet” (1956), and while the performers aren't exactly stellar, they represent various backgrounds as they travel through space. However, things begin to fall apart when they arrive on Venus; they have to avoid a strange mass of mud/treacle/chocolate, and the place—which clearly had a civilization at some point—seems intent on getting rid of them. The question is whether they can return safely. It's not any worse than other movies in the vein of "The Outer Limits," and if it had been subtitled, I probably would have enjoyed it more. There’s even an underlying idea that might still be relevant after six decades.
