I honestly can’t fathom why Diane Kruger accepted a role in this movie. It's another predictable story filled with adolescent melodrama, seemingly designed to capitalize on the popularity of Hero Fiennes Tiffin's "After..." series of forgettable young love tales. Here, he ("Jim") becomes infatuated with a classmate ("Ann," played by Sydney Park), but for reasons that remained unclear to me, she ends their relationship (after they’ve had a physical encounter, suggesting his acting might also be the problem). Simultaneously, his mother ("Kay," portrayed by Miss Kruger) and her husband ("Greg," Jeffrey Donovan) are dealing with difficulties following the financial crisis—their marriage and home are threatened because he's out of work. Will he manage to find employment? Can the family mend their bonds? I’m not sure what to make of it; absolutely nothing occurs in this film. The intimate or romantic moments feel devoid of any genuine feeling – they might as well be filmed separately – and even the soundtrack, which can sometimes elevate a movie like this, is simply disappointing. HFT needs to proceed with caution. He possesses a certain youthful appeal, but his accents are noticeably weak (though I'm not sure why an accent was needed in the first place) and unless he moves toward more significant roles, he risks fading away, leaving behind a collection of teen romances. It’s simply bad—and that’s my opinion, even though I'm probably outside the target audience!
