It’s surprisingly enjoyable despite being rather silly—definitely a film that exceeds expectations. I can’t quite explain how, but *Fired Up!* manages to pull it off. Nicholas D'Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen have good chemistry together and seem well-suited for their parts; otherwise, different actors or a slightly altered storyline would likely have resulted in something much worse. The humor is goofy, though occasionally amusing; I didn’t find myself laughing out loud or even giggling, but it mostly avoided making me feel uncomfortable, and I did crack a smile on a few occasions. The soundtrack has some good selections—songs by Akon and Avril Lavigne somehow work well within the film. I anticipated that the plot would unfold in a less favorable way, but it actually does a decent job of showing how the two main characters grow. It’s funny how many movies from the 2000s follow a similar formula, almost becoming a defining characteristic of that period. I chose to watch this because I realized it was the only movie directed by Will Gluck that I hadn't seen yet. Aside from *Annie*, he’s generally a dependable director; *Friends with Benefits* is his best work so far, in my opinion.
