This movie is a really poor attempt to copy Top Gun, but with helicopters—and I honestly don't understand the point. It feels like a blatant imitation, taking almost everything directly from its predecessor. Nicolas Cage plays a character who's an over-the-top version of Maverick, and Tommy Lee Jones takes on the role similar to Viper. We’ve got flight school, pilots full of themselves, and a romantic subplot that doesn't quite work. Fire Birds copied Top Gun so thoroughly that it just highlighted how much worse it was. The movie is filled with ridiculousness that makes you uncomfortable. The music isn't even close to the iconic sound by Harold Faltermeyer. David Green’s direction simply couldn’t compete with Tony Scott’s skill. Despite having some well-known actors from the 90s, Fire Birds just didn’t manage to be good.
