The film follows a young clownfish, “Nemo,” who is naturally inquisitive and eager for exploration. Life among the Barrier Reef has begun to feel restrictive for him, and he longs to see what lies beyond. His father, however, believes it’s best to stay within safe waters and has forbidden him from leaving. But one day, his curiosity gets the better of him when he spots a fishing boat, and soon finds himself captured by a diver. He's taken to a dentist’s office where he ends up in a tank with other fish, all waiting for the dentist’s daughter who will be their new owner. Despite his youth, “Nemo” is resourceful and quickly starts devising a plan to escape back to the ocean – which they can all see from the tank! Meanwhile, his father is frantic and, while searching for him, meets "Dory," a fish with memory problems who believes she’s spotted a boat, or at least thinks she has. Numerous colorful and entertaining events unfold as this pair use their wits and face several dangers in an attempt to find each other again. My initial reaction was that “Dory” was irritating; I honestly hoped she would be eaten by sharks. She suffers from short-term memory loss – but how does she remember anything at all? Aside from that, there are many likable characters, including vegetarian sharks and the friendly "Peach." The portrayal of “Nemo” captures a sense of innocence and playful trickery that brings a smile to your face—and even creates worry as he seems headed for a similar fate to goldfish once kept in plastic bags. The animation is beautiful, and the soundtrack (which includes a snippet of Herrmann’s "Psycho") significantly enhances this polished and delightful adventure. It's definitely best experienced on a large screen.
