There’s a similarity to (cast away 2000) about this film. Miguel Sapochnik directed it; he’s known for his television work, notably directing six episodes of Game of Thrones, including the highly regarded Battle of the Bastards. The movie centers on a man living in isolation with his dog on an alien planet. To ensure the dog's care should anything happen to him, he creates a robot. It explores themes of humanity and treating everyone with respect, even if that someone is a robot constructed from metal. Tom Hanks delivers a strong performance, and the conversations between him and the robots are enjoyable. I appreciated the bond between the dog and Tom Hanks, and the robot proved to be an important character. The portrayal felt distinct from other robotic characters seen in films; he’s opinionated, chatty, and possesses a defined personality. He expresses regret when Finch disapproves but acts according to his own desires before apologizing. The film could have benefited from more lines of dialogue that would engage the audience further. It also would've been preferable if it incorporated flashbacks. I was curious about Finch’s past life, what he used to do, and what led to the world’s current state and the disappearance of people.
