While "Finch" doesn’t quite reach the heights of truly inventive post-apocalyptic or survival stories, it remains an engaging film centered around its characters and offering a touching personal narrative. Tom Hanks demonstrates he can still deliver compelling performances as a man experiencing lessons about friendship, connection between people, and the strength to keep going through difficult times. Director Miguel Sapochnik utilizes beautiful visuals (by Jo Willems), impressive special effects, and an outstanding musical score (from Gustavo Santaolalla) to make the film stand out, even though it sometimes feels predictable and moves at a deliberate pace. The connections between Finch, a charming dog, and a clever robot—brought to life with a great vocal performance by Caleb Landry Jones—are particularly well-developed. Although some aspects of the world presented in the movie are hinted at but not fully resolved, I would still suggest seeing this unique perspective on how the world might end. Rating: B
