The premise isn’t terrible, despite relying on well-worn territory, but the execution lacked finesse with its scenes and plot developments. The characters were adequate, though I didn’t find the casting entirely believable; Breslin was the exception. I've followed her career since she started acting, but lately, her film selections haven't been particularly strong or enjoyable, which makes it hard to be enthusiastic about them. It seems like a matter of poor choices on her part and those involved in making the movies. In this particular film, it’s obvious that she isn’t physically right for the role. This type of project would have been better suited for someone like Chloe Grace Moretz; she strikes me as more of a product of Disney. The supporting actors weren't bad, particularly the four playing the antagonists. There wasn’t much to say about Wes Bentley; he felt like he was just making an appearance. The plot itself doesn’t really hold up under scrutiny. While the idea of training someone from a young age to be a lethal weapon is compelling for a film, the way that assignment unfolded in this movie felt contrived. It could have been handled more simply, so they unnecessarily complicated things and added some violence just for the sake of it. What was positive about the film was that it wasn’t dull. The atmosphere was consistently dark, and they avoided introducing extraneous characters, which helped to keep the focus on a small group and make an effort to improve the overall presentation. I would have appreciated it more if certain parts had been stronger. Ultimately, I'm left feeling unfulfilled, so I don't believe it’s worth seeing. Instead, you might want to explore other films with similar themes, such as 'Hanna' or 'Nikita'. _4/10_
