I’m really enjoying 'Final Destination'! I kept putting off checking out this series, and I’m glad I finally did. The only thing I was aware of going in was something about a car behind a truck—it seems like that must be in one of the later movies. This is my first time seeing Devon Sawa at this point in his career; I've heard people bring up this film when discussing him, especially after watching 'Chucky' on TV. He’s definitely a good choice for the main character. Ali Larter is also very good. It was interesting to see Seann William Scott involved as well. Some of the supporting characters around those three aren’t quite as strong in terms of writing and acting. Kerr Smith’s Carter, for instance, is mostly just irritating. Clear, played by Larter, feels a little strange at times too. Even that scene with the touching thing (no spoilers here), involving Kristen Cloke's character, felt pretty goofy. However, it's clear this movie was made to be entertaining rather than complex or perfectly logical. It succeeds in that goal; the special effects are impressive and the deaths are inventive. The pacing is also spot on—90 minutes is exactly what a film like this needs. I will say the ending felt a little awkward, though it was still fun. I got the sense that the filmmakers weren’t sure how to wrap things up, considering how the ‘skipping’ works and they clearly wanted to set up another movie. It wasn't a major problem, but it did feel somewhat abrupt. Overall, as my rating shows, I really loved watching it. I’m curious to see what the sequels are like; I suspect they might be hit or miss, but we’ll see.
