I’ll be back in touch shortly! Just before heading off to Paris, Alex Browning experiences a vision foretelling the destruction of his airplane. Overcome with fear, he disembarks, and during the resulting confusion, a teacher along with several classmates are also removed from the flight; the plane subsequently explodes, killing everyone aboard. However, those who avoided disaster quickly find themselves victims of bizarre accidents, suggesting that death is pursuing them. Following the wave of underwhelming teen movies centered around danger that emerged after Wes Craven’s successful *Scream*, it's a pleasant surprise to encounter one that manages to stand out. Without trying to be anything more than an amusing horror film, *Final Destination* offers inventive moments, humor, and, most importantly, startling scares. From the very beginning, with its frightening depiction of a plane crash, to the imaginative and unsettling ways in which the main characters confront death, this movie openly embraces its horror genre intentions. A quick glance at the character names reveals just how deeply connected the filmmakers are to their horror influences; while not explicitly a tribute film, James Wong and his team clearly understand what makes for an effective modern horror experience. If you criticize the script, you’re likely misunderstanding the purpose of *Final Destination*, or perhaps you've already passed away! Four less impressive sequels would later be released, but this is undoubtedly the one to see—it delivers a solid 100 minutes of frightening entertainment. I challenge you not to jump at least once! 9/10
