I ended up being charmed by 'Final Destination 5'. There’s a specific element concerning the ending that I wasn’t privy to beforehand, and experiencing it without knowing added significantly to my enjoyment. If you are considering watching this one, try to go in completely unprepared – it really does pay off. The movie ultimately deviates from its established formula; something I've hoped for while watching the previous four installments. This shift involves Miles Fisher’s Peter, a character who isn’t particularly well-developed but is adequate enough. Nicholas D’Agosto performs adequately as the lead, and Emma Bell also appears—this is my first time seeing her in anything outside of 'The Walking Dead'. Courtney B. Vance delivers a reliable performance in a smaller part, although P. J. Byrne’s character felt grating; that type of role seems to be standard for these films, honestly. The special effects are on par with the first three movies, and noticeably better than the original 'The Final Destination'. The central event looks convincing and is entertaining to witness; I would consider it the most impressive disaster sequence in any of the sequels. There are also a few deaths executed effectively throughout the ninety-minute runtime. It’s not necessarily a great film, but overall I’d say it’s just barely acceptable. The conclusion might fall apart if you scrutinized it too closely—or perhaps it would hold up, I'm honestly indifferent either way—but it satisfied me, so I’m content with it.
