I didn’t dislike watching *Final Destination 2*, but there’s no question that it falls short compared to the first film, which I enjoyed quite a bit. The initial premise wasn't as captivating or unusual this time around; the plane crash from the previous installment was more compelling. The actors aren't bad, exactly, but they do feel like a step down. A. J. Cook and the others are acceptable in their parts, however, it lacks a strong central performer. The characters themselves also don’t fare well, which doesn’t help the performances. On the positive side, the special effects and creative deaths are still pretty good. The plot developments and twists attempt to generate some interest, but I felt they were overly complicated. Also, having seen the formula already diminishes the impact; since you generally know what's coming, it can't be as surprising. That probably doesn’t set up the later movies for success, though only time will tell.
