The film had potential as a humorous send-up of zombie movies, though trimming about twenty minutes would have helped considerably. The story revolves around a group making an extremely low-budget movie—complete with artificial body parts and fake blood—and the acting isn't exactly stellar. Director "Rémi," played by Romain Duris, is struggling to manage interpersonal conflicts and romantic entanglements as their resources dwindle. As if things weren’t difficult enough, they inadvertently unleash actual zombies, leading to a dangerous and chaotic situation. The movie’s latter portion appears intended to both justify the poor quality of the first thirty minutes and to imply that with financial assistance and creative input from Japan—resulting in name changes and a sudden improvement in production values—the film would somehow become better. Unfortunately, this idea is stretched too thin. The satirical aspects lose their impact, devolving into a rather childish and unfunny series of physical gags featuring actors portraying terrible performers. While the extended sequence depicting the continuous filming of their battle against axe-wielding zombies does offer some amusement, I was beginning to feel restless by that point. There are certainly moments of humor—but not nearly enough to make it worthwhile.
