Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan) is longing for Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson), and this leads him to maneuver his return into her world—through purchasing the company where she works and by vowing to become a more palatable version of himself, shedding some of his darker tendencies. The problem is that Ana isn't truly seeking out a reformed partner; instead, she desires the excitement and physicality of their past encounters. She’s also not thrilled about meeting some of Christian’s former companions—a group who aren’t happy with his current affections, particularly when he uses a certain term to describe his feelings for her. Aside from a handful of scenes that are mildly suggestive, but where Dornan doesn't actively participate, the narrative itself is incredibly weak and functions mainly as transitions between moments of spanking. I might be too accustomed to darker or more provocative content these days, but with consistently lackluster conversations, I honestly found myself wanting to escape on that helicopter, as well.
