This second installment, *’Fifty Shades Darker’*, is a minor step forward compared to the first film, though it’s still not really something you could call good. It seemed to have more substance this time around; it was easier to get through, if you forget what happened in the previous movie. The filmmakers definitely took an easy route, centering the plot on two less appealing characters, which lets you overlook some of the questionable aspects of the main couple’s dynamic. I didn't react as negatively watching this 2017 film, and that suggests I enjoyed it a bit more than the last one. Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan continue to work well together; I don’t have any real complaints about either of them. The subplot with Bella Heathcote’s character initially caught my attention, although naturally, it didn't quite live up to expectations. Now I wonder if *’Fifty Shades Freed'* kept the momentum going (x = doubt).
