Ferrari shows promise as a biopic, though it doesn't fully connect on an emotional level, functioning more as a study of its characters. Adam Driver delivers a strong performance, but Penélope Cruz is particularly remarkable, giving a truly heartbreaking portrayal. The conversations between the central couple are among the film’s best moments, although the narrative feels rushed at times. It handles events involving people outside Enzo Ferrari's immediate family with a brevity that diminishes their impact and also exaggerates one particular storyline. The racing scenes are well-executed. Ultimately, it succeeds in portraying the life of a complicated individual whose experiences were far more tragic than initially apparent. Rating: B-
