The film kicks things off with a familiar feel, showing how Dom and his crew find themselves hunted by Dante, played by Jason Momoa. The plot involves an unbelievably far-fetched heist from a police station, leading to an even more unbelievable car chase through Rio involving a ten-ton safe! I initially assumed it would be terrible, but surprisingly, it wasn't. While the film is quite repetitive and unfolds in a series of disconnected segments, there’s enough narrative to support the numerous action sequences that wreak havoc across various cities—particularly Rome. Momoa seems genuinely enthusiastic about his character, and despite the “family” theme becoming tiresome eventually, the production values are high, the pace doesn't let up, and the visual effects are generally well-utilized. The supporting actors perform adequately; I would have liked to see more from Cipher (Charlize Theron), and considerably less screen time for Tej (Ludacris) and Roman (Tyrese Gibson), who started to annoy me. From a storytelling standpoint, this feels like a prelude – the groundwork is being laid for future installments, which will likely conclude with a grand finale full of tragedy, probably sparing only Nepal from their destructive path. It’s simple entertainment; it won't make you think too hard, and the acting and writing are mostly unremarkable, easily fitting in alongside the other films in the series. If you have no idea what to expect from this franchise at this point, there’s not much reason to watch.
