Following directly from the previous installment, Dom (Vin Diesel), his former FBI colleague O’Conner (Paul Walker), and Mia (Jordan Brewster) continue to evade law enforcement, spearheaded by Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). While trapped in Rio, they need to gather together a team of skilled drivers to stop drug lord Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), who is quite angry with them. This installment seems to prioritize developing the narrative and characters somewhat more than previous entries, attempting a slightly deeper story; however, this does result in moments where the film feels slower-paced. There are perhaps too many contemplative stances from Diesel, but despite heading toward an expected resolution, for me it surpasses all other films in the franchise and sets things up nicely for the sixth one. It seems to have a similar level of quality as the original movie, while still delivering plenty of action sequences and exciting stunts that make it enjoyable.
