"Emily" (Phoebe Dynevor) and her fiancé "Luke" (Alden Ehrenreich), a seemingly content and successful couple recently engaged, are the subject of office speculation. Rumors suggest "Luke" is in line for a promotion that would bring them considerable financial gain, and she initially appears pleased about it. However, their boss "Campbell" (Eddie Marsan) unexpectedly decides to award the position to her instead. While he expresses outward enthusiasm, his true feelings remain unclear, and she finds herself preoccupied with how to protect his sensitive ego. What follows is a rather improbable scenario where they navigate a fragile situation that places significant strain on their relationship. Will it endure? To be honest, I didn’t find myself invested in the outcome. The plot felt manufactured, designed solely to generate conflict and suspicion between a couple who are about to get married, potentially leading them to avoid even casual interaction. It attempts to critique corporate ambition and advancement but does so in a predictable and uninspired way. There were too many familiar character types and clichés, leaving me largely indifferent by the time it concluded as to who would ultimately benefit from this rather unremarkable and overly written drama. Perhaps I simply wasn't receptive to it at the time – but it didn’t resonate with me.
